The singer and the actor Chayenne
Everybody heard of Chayenne. Either from movies or from the stage, Elmer Figueroa Arce – his real name – is amongst the best sold Latin pop singers worldwide. Till now, he had sold more than 30 million copies and released 21 albums. We all know his stage name but how many of you know the source of the nickname? The pseudonym was given by his mother after the television series from the 50’s – Cheyenne.
Chayenne started his early career with Los Chicos, a very popular group in Puerto Rico, in the late 70’s. In 1983, he left the band, together with other two members: Ray and Migue. Chayenne became solo artist and released his first album in 1984. His first released album was in collaboration with RCA Ariola and was entitled “Chayanne es mi nombre.” In 1986, “Sangre Latina” was released under the same music label. Starting 1987, he switched the label to Sony Music, and had his first hit, the ballad “Peligro de Amor”. In 1988, Chayanne released the album that has his name and included several hits: “Tu Pirata Soy Yo”, “Fuiste un Trozo de Hielo en la Escarcha”, and “Este Ritmo Se Baila Así”.
In 1990. “Tiempo de Vals” has been released , followed by “Provocame” in 1992, the album that striked number one with the hot single “El centro de mi Corazon”. In 1993, Chayanne was nominated at the Lo nuestro Awards for the Best Pop Song of the year. Other successful albums followed: “Atado a tu Amor”, “Grandes Exitos”, “Sincero”, “Desde Siempre”, “Cautivo”, “Mi tiempo”. Many hits had been played at the radio all of these years, moreover during the period when we was touring with Alejandro Fernandez and Marc Anthony (2005). Chayanne’s “Mi Tiempo” sold 17.000 copies in the first week and the first single “Si Nos Quedara Poco Tiempo”reached number one on the Hot Latin Tracks chart. In 2009, Chayenne released the single “Me Enamoré de Ti”, the music theme used for the “Corazon Salvaje” series.
Apart from his music career, Chayenne is a very good actor, as well. You must know his famous movie, where he played with Vanessa Williams – Dance with me – 1998. Other movies where he acted: guest appearance in Ally McBeal, “Volver a empezar”, “Linda Sara”, “Provocame” – for which he made the soundtrack, “Amor Immortal”.
